Bio

Carolyn Birdsall is Associate Professor of Media Studies, University of Amsterdam, where she is affiliated with the Television and Cross-media team and currently serving as Vice-Director of the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis. Birdsall studied at the University of New South Wales (History and Media/Communications), before completing a doctorate at the University of Amsterdam. Her publications include the monographs Nazi Soundscapes (AUP, 2012) and Radiophilia (Bloomsbury, 2023). Birdsall is director of the ASCA Cities Project, and following the recent completion of her NWO-funded project TRACE (Tracking Radio Archival Collections in Europe, 1930-1960), she is now working on a collaborative, follow-up project AV-DATA (2024-2025).
